In our final installment of guest reviews, Megan tells us about how the KoalaKin makes her life easier as a working, nursing mom! You have a chance to win your own KoalaKin below!
Imagine that you have just arrived home from work. The dog needs to go outside, the kitchen needs cleaned up, dinner needs to be made, and the baby needs to eat. All you want to do is sit down and nurse your baby, but you are feeling overwhelmed with all that you have to do over the next four hours. Now there is something that can help! The KoalaKin Hands-free Nursing Pouch makes multitasking much easier!
I am a new mom of a 12-week old baby girl and I have been back to work for a month. I pump by day and (a lot) at night. My daughter has been reverse cycling and wants to breastfeed at least every hour and a half during the evening. I feel like there are nights I cannot get anything accomplished, especially since I’m not yet able to nurse while standing or moving around. When I heard about the KoalaKin Hands-free Nursing Pouch, I couldn’t wait to try it out!
The directions were extremely easy to follow. I didn’t take me long to put on the pouch. Some of the snaps are tricky to get attached. I recommend snapping one of the side snaps prior to putting on the pouch. It takes less time to put it on and to take it off. I did take me a few tries to get the baby in the right position, but it does get easier each time you do it. The straps are comfortable and the baby’s weight is distributed well. After practicing while sitting down for several feedings, I finally felt comfortable walking around while feeding. I still find that, at times, I want to support the baby with one arm while I’m walking around. I have been able to do a wide variety of activities while nursing using the pouch. I have cleaned up the kitchen and put bottles together for the next day, worked on the computer, walked up and down the stairs, and folded laundry, just to name a few. I can now multitask while still bonding with my baby!
You cannot bend over while using this device, but you can bend at the knees if you must reach down. This can make doing things like unloading the dishwasher a bit challenging, but at least I am able to accomplish something else while I’m feeding the baby. Switching sides is very easy with the KoalaKin. Just unsnap, move the baby, adjust your clothing, latch, snap, and go!
To make breastfeeding with this product easier, I would make sure to wear a nursing top and bra, especially if you plan to use this out in public. It can be a bit bulky to have to pull your shirt up in the front while being strapped in to the pouch. Also, your stomach will hang out and if you are like me, it will get chilly. When I used the pouch with a nursing top, it was very easy to feed and change sides without exposing too much.
Overall, this product is worth it, not only for working mothers, but for stay-at-home moms that have a million things to do, or other children to chase around the house.
Megan is a working mom of Kylie, who is 12 weeks old. She is married to Daniel and addicted to cloth diapers!
